New Ram 1500

The redesigned front grille, improved headlamps, and sharp hood design of the new Ram 1500 let you make quite the entrance in the rugged truck, but the exterior improvements are about much more than looks as features like the active grille shutter make it incredibly aerodynamic.

The bed of your truck has lots of uses, so it needs to be versatile to handle all of them, and that is certainly true of the Ram 1500's bed, which is the perfect size for holding 4x8 sheets of plywood. Along with redesigned dimensions, the bed now has an available tailgate assist system that lets you drop it with a button on your key fob so that you can prep the bed for loading when your hands will soon be full.

Additionally, the much-loved RamBox® Cargo Management System receives some upgrades as well. To deal with any weather, the Ram 1500 is available with heated and ventilated seats for both the front and rear rows, which also feature a reclining feature so that everyone in the cab can get around in comfort. Plus, the dual-pane sunroof lets in fresh air and natural light for a refreshing cabin feel.

We promised smart tech in the new Ram 1500, and the sound system and climate-controlled seats mentioned above are only the start of it. There's the available 12-inch touchscreen in the center dash that has a split screen function, so you can keep an eye on the directions from the navigation system while you adjust the music or climate controls.

This infotainment system is incredibly easy to use thanks to a responsive, intuitive touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are integrated to make using the mobile apps you prefer, like Pandora radio or Waze, a hassle-free task. The new Ram 1500 tackles passenger safety in a few different ways. What may surprise car shoppers most about the upgrades to the new Ram 1500 is that two of the three powertrains are actually mild hybrid systems, which Ram calls eTorque. While hybrid systems have a reputation as being less powerful, these systems add more power to help out with towing and general performance.

How do they do that? They replace the alternator with an electric motor system that adds on up to 130 pound-feet of torque that, because it comes from an electric motor, is present from the lightest touch of the gas. With this system in the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engine, drivers can tow up trailers and boats up to 12,750, and they'll have a max payload of 2,300 pounds, which are highest specs the Ram 1500 has ever achieved.

There are three cab/bed configurations and six total trim levels that the Ram 1500 comes in, so you'll have some decisions to make. The configurations are:

• Quad Cab with 6-foot 4-inch bed
• Crew Cab with 5-foot 7-inch bed
• Crew Cab with 6-foot 4-inch bed

The quad cab isn't quite as large as the crew cab, but it still fits five passengers in comfort. It's also important to note that only the Tradesman, Big Horn, and Laramie trims are available in any of those configurations as the Laramie Longhorn® and Limited trim are only available as crew cabs, and the Rebel trim is not available as the crew cab with the longer bed.

Rebel

• Dampened tailgate
• Ruby red interior accents
• Skid plates for fuel tank, steering gear, transfer case, and suspension

Laramie Longhorn

This trim comes with many of the same features as the Laramie trim, but adds:

• Heated second-row seats

Limited

This trim reaches a level of luxury that few vehicles, let alone trucks, reach as it includes:
